McCall Sod Farm was founded by Howell McCall in 1967. The farm was located on Highway 231, about six miles north of Panama City. In 1971, three local businessmen purchased the farm, which at that time was 235 acres of centipede sod.
In 1978, the sod farm moved to its current location, in the Southport community, which is north of Panama City. The farm is located along portions of Kingswood Road and also Edwards Road. Today the farm consists of approximately 1300 acres and there are seven varieties of sod to choose from and you can also purchase top soil. The varieties are Centipede, TIFTUF™ Bermuda, Tifway 419 Bermuda, Palmetto St. Augustine, Raleigh St. Augustine, El Toro Zoysia, Geo Zoysia, Empire Zoysia, Argentine and Pensacola Bahia.
